![]() Good luck trying to procure/carry/use auto insurance without committing insurance fraud. Do you want them to march down to the DMV and register that car immediately in their own name? Whatever your answer is going to be, apply that to this discussion. Also, I wonder what happens if someone drives a rental car for a few days or their company gives them a car to use. Phew, good thing we've been over this already. So now you are the arbiter of what is legitimate business? You do know that many companies exist for the sole purpose of holding property and/or limiting liability, right? This is quite common. Ownership and registration can be easily looked up. Who's lying? Lying about what? The car has a license plate prominently displayed. Look dude, just because you don't like something doesn't mean its illegal. All I'm seeing is emotional and baseless accusations. Still waiting for any actual citations of fraud or illegality. We as a society agree on laws and rules, and we follow them. That's how taxes (and like, all of society works). I'm just telling you that this is very likely to be some sort of illegal despite what you may want to believe.Īlso, if you feel so strongly about supporting taxes and infrastructure, nothing is stopping you from writing a check and mailing it off to the State Highway Fund or overpaying your property taxes. If you want to lead some brand of SovCit life because you think you're clever, go right ahead. You have 30 days from the time you move here to register your vehicle in the state. It's almost like one is legitimate and one is fraud. Incorporating a business to do business is a lot different from incorporating a business to avoid personal taxes. ![]() The state of Texas (and probably every other state) cares about what you do when you live there, though. They're not the ones you're lying to or committing, effectively, tax fraud against. No shit the state of MT doesn't care about you giving them revenue. Hey, you want to lie to the government, you go right on ahead. What's that? you don't want to overpay taxes? Same here. Also, if you feel so strongly about supporting taxes and infrastructure, nothing is stopping you from writing a check and mailing it off to the State Highway Fund or overpaying your property taxes. There's nothing dishonest about this and in fact is sanctioned and quite public. I don't really feel like I want to spend time convincing you otherwise. You as a person can choose to make an LLC right now in any state. Do you ever consider why? I'd like you to pause and think about that. To cite a similar example, its common knowledge that many companies incorporate in Delaware. Its simply a legal difference between states and you as the consumer have the right to exercise free choice. Its public knowledge, advertised, and welcomed by MT gov't. ![]() But hey, if you want to base your opinions on a jaloponik article, you do you. That's a pretty shit article and you'll notice that there's no proof to support the 'scam' allegation. This makes the feedback loop all wrong - the higher they jack up tolls and the more toll roads they add, traffic gets worse and they get more money to spend on things that as a driver on that particular section of road every day I simply don't care about.Ĭan you please help me understand how this situation is not legal? It's a cash grab where they don't add any additional lanes, they don't solve the capacity problems, and pour the money into the general fund to be spend on other things. I deeply, DEEPLY suspect the exact opposite is true. It eliminates the corruption and incompetence which leads to extra lanes being added to some beaurocrat's already easy commute, like a bridge to nowhere - a favor traded because some beaurocrat's nephew needed a job. ![]() My money is spent on MY driving experience and MY COMMUTE. If the toll goes into highway improvements within 5 miles of the location it was collected, it means more money to widen the highway where there is more demand. I would easily vote to triple the toll if that was the case. There should be a law saying 100% of the toll road proceeds go to adding lanes and maintaining roads and exits and onramps within 5 miles of the EXACT spot the toll was collected. I just try to think that this road wouldn't even exist if there wasn't a toll. ![]()
